Do You Have a Feature-Worthy Tank?

Most all reefers are horribly proud of their tanks. We slave away at these tanks for hours and days. We give them our sweat and our blood and hopefully not our marriages. And when it all comes together and we find that perfect sweet spot of reefing glory and wonder, then we sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

If your tank has reached this wonderful place, perhaps your tank is the perfect candidate for a featured tank. Read this article to find out more.

Introduction

I have always been fascinated by marine life. Growing up I had several freshwater tanks but was never able to afford a saltwater aquarium. About a year ago I decided to take the plunge into the hobby since I was finally stable enough to afford and have the time for a marine tank. I currently have a 120-gallon display tank with a 40-gallon sump. Through the last year I started with a smaller tank and accumulated everything I would need for what I wanted to end up with, which is the 120.

New Reeflo Needlewheel Skimmer: A review PDF Print E-mail
Written by Paul Whitby
Friday, 13 July 2007

The following is a users review of the new Reeflo skimmer using the Orca Needlewheel.  This unit was purchased from Premium Aquatics (www.premiumaquatics.com) and is from the first production run of this model.  I have no affiliation with either Premium Aquatics or Reeflo.  The purpose of this review is to provide my impressions and opinions of this unit.

First Impressions.

Wow.  The main box is certainly quite large.  The skimmer comes in two boxes.  The smaller contains the pump while the other contains the skimmer itself and all of the pipes and tubes etc. for the body of the skimmer.  On opening it is clearly well packed with a thick styrofoam moulded insert.  On the top of the box are the fittings and a large plate for mounting the pump on.  Removing the first tray reveals the skimmer itself.  The body and the collection cup are wrapped in plastic and are in separate troughs.  First impression….I hope the skimmer works as well as it was packed.

On removal of the pieces I was impressed with the quality of the unit.  It is pretty heavy and very well constructed.  There wassn’t a single noticeable scratch on the acrylic, nor are there glue spills, acrylic burrs or rough edges.  The unit is very well made and polished.
