Several days ago Leighanne of Aquariums contacted me to let me know about a fundraiser she is putting together to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). I wanted to pass this information along to you all and ask for your help in this extremely important venture. Read on for the full story...

For those who maybe do not know, Leighanne and Roman have two children, Nikolai and Sasha. Several years ago Sasha came along to my Martial Arts School where I noticed he had a couple of tell tale signs of a possible neuromuscular condition. After several banks of tests it was finally confirmed that Sasha had Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. This a very debilitating disease where the major muscles slowly stop functioning, leading to inability to walk, then to use the arms etc. Normally the progression takes several years. I first met Sasha 3 years ago, at that time he was a great kid who thought fighting and kicking his Dad was the best thing on earth. He is now a great kid in a wheelchair with rapidly dwindling ability to use his arms.

In an effort to raise money for the MDA Leighanne is taking $1 donations. Every dollar donated gets a chance to make a difference to someone’s life. It also gets you a chance to win one of 4 complete aquaria set ups. There are 4 58g tanks, stands, hoods and lights to be won. Two come with a CPR backpak and 2 come with an emperor filter.

I emplore you all, please make an effort to drop a dollar or two in to the jar in her store. All money raised goes to the MDA. In the past COMAS has stepped up to the plate and gone above and beyond to help others, lets do it again.

Details, on Leighanne’s website are here:
